This year’s Grammy Awards red carpet looks made a big splash in the fashion pool. The Grammys are an annual music award show along with a red carpet. As everyone knows, fashion is subjective, not everyone will like the same aspects but everyone will have an opinion. One of the most hot and cold looks was Lizzo’s bright orange cape and gown by Dolce & Gabbana. Many people absolutely loved the look, the florals and the way the color compliments her skin tone fit her so well. On the other hand, many people thought it looked cheap and unfinished. The boning on the bodice looked unfinished and out of place, the straps look like an afterthought and the cape gives no constant silhouette. Ellery Riccio, a science teacher at EHHS, did like Lizzos look but had some thoughts on Shania Twain’s look. She said, “To me it is giving cow print and I just don’t think it fits at an award show.” She also did not love the red hair with the outfit.
Other honorable mentions are Cardi B in an electric blue fresh-off-the-runway gown from Gaurav Gupta that elegantly defied gravity, Adele in a custom red velvet off the shoulder Louis Vuitton gown, and Jennifer Lopez in Gucci wearing what can only be described as “evening glamor.”
The night was very successful, with many nominees making history. Beyoncé broke the record of most Grammy wins, giving her a total of 32 awards. Unfortunately, she did not take home Album of the Year for the fourth time, losing to Harry Styles with “Harry's House.” Styles also took home the Best Pop Vocal Album with “As It Was.” Kim Petras became the first transgender woman to win a Grammy in the pop duo category and Viola Davis became the third Black woman to earn the coveted EGOT status, an acronym meaning Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award wins.
